לבב (mng. dub.; Dl Pr. 88ff. finds orig. mng. in As. labâbu, in unruhiger Bewegung sein;—√ of לֵבַב, לֵב; cf. NH id., As. libbu, Aram. לִבָּא, Syriac, Eth. Ethiopic Ar. Arabic, Sab. לב, Sab. Denkm. p. 18, No. 1, i. 7);—the literary usage of לֵב and לֵבָב is:
1. earliest poetry, J and E chiefly, Eph doc. of Ju S K chiefly, Am Ho Zc 9-11 Is 15 use לֵב.
2. לֵבָב first appears in Is and certain strata of E and Eph doc. of Ju S K, and is continued in Zp Na (prob.) D H Dt editors and some ψψ.
3. Je Ez Jb prefer לֵב but use occasionally לֵבָב.
4. Is 2, 3 La and exilic ψψ use לֵב.
5. Is 13-14:23 Je 50-51 Hg Zc 1-8 Jo Jon ψ 25, 90, 104, use לבב.
6. Mal Ob Zc 12-14 Memorials of Ezr and Ne Pr Ru Ct and many ψψ of Persian period use לֵב.
7. Chr and Dn use לֵבָב.
