Four Fields of Advanced Study

Online Theology Certificate Programs

Explore certificate programs spanning biblical studies, early Christianity, exegesis, historiography, and advanced research.

The Berean Standard

Study the Evidence. Weigh the Interpretations.

Berean presents sources within the historical and textual context needed to understand them, then guides students through the major interpretations advanced by scholars and traditions—without requiring adoption of a standard institutional conclusion. With that grounding, students decide which interpretation the evidence best supports.

Our commitment: Historical Reconstruction, Primary Source Literacy, and Disciplined Inquiry.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will Berean tell me what I am supposed to believe?

No. You will examine established and competing interpretations, consider the strongest evidence for each, and explain and defend your own conclusions. Agreement is not the academic standard; sound evidence and reasoning are.

Will I have to start over if I already know the subject?

Every student begins with the course’s shared foundations, but the programs are not designed as introductory Bible surveys. Coursework moves into deeper historical, linguistic, philosophical, and source-critical study intended to extend rather than repeat serious prior study.

Am I mainly paying for recorded lectures?

No. Each course week includes a reading assignment, video lesson, discussion board, comprehension quiz, and writing assignment.

Will I be studying completely on my own?

No. Students following the recommended schedule move through the program with a cohort, participate in weekly discussions, and complete the course sequence together while the course Instructor provides routine help and assignment feedback.

What is the “Optional Self-Paced Track”?

Every program includes a recommended schedule to help you stay on track. If you need more flexibility, you can switch to the Self-Paced Track at any time. This option lets you study at your own speed with no deadlines, while still having full access to our Assistant Instructor support team. Please note: enabling the self-paced option changes some platform features, and once activated, it remains in place until the end of the semester. Students may return to the cohort schedule at the start of the next semester once all outstanding work is complete.

Can I examine real coursework before enrolling?

Yes. The Course Preview provides access to one complete week from a real course. It requires no payment card, has no automatic renewal, and simply ends when the preview period is over.

Are Berean Institutes certificate programs degrees?

No. Berean Institutes awards non-degree certificates designed for advanced study, research, teaching, ministry, and independent scholarship.

Is Berean Institutes accredited?

No. Berean Institutes is independent and unaccredited. Its certificates are not intended for professions requiring an accredited degree, licensure, or another regulated credential.

Will I be working directly with the PhD Instructor?

You’ll learn from a curriculum designed and overseen by our PhD Instructor. For everyday support, assignment feedback, and general questions, our Assistant Instructors are available to provide timely help. If you’d like personalized feedback, 1-on-1 calls, or career mentorship directly with the PhD Instructor, you can select the Direct Instructor Upgrade during enrollment.

Can I take a course without enrolling in a certificate program?

Yes. Selected certificate courses are also offered as three- or four-week Open Academic Courses that cover less material than the full in-program version and require no certificate enrollment.
