גַּאֲוָה, גַּאֲוָוה f. (b. h.; גאי) 1) haughtiness, pride. Y. Yoma VII, 44ᵇ מפני הג׳ to avoid the appearance of pride (on the Day of Atonement). —2) glory. Ḥag. 5ᵇ (ref. to גוה, Jer. XIII, 17) מפני גַאֲוָותָן של וכ׳ over the glory of Israel that has been taken from him &c. Ib. מפני גַאֲוָותָהּ של מלכות שמים over the (lost) glory of the heavenly kingdom (the destruction of the Temple).
