חַסְפְּנִיתָא f. (חֲסַף) 1) scaly skin. Num. R. s. 19; Koh. R. to VII, 23 רגלוי … לח׳ דנונא the feet of chickens resemble (as to their covering) the scale-covered skin of the fish, v. חַרְסְפִיתִין. —2) scab, eruption. Sabb. 133ᵇ, sq. האי מאן דמשי … ליה ח׳ (Ms. M. חוספנתא) he who washes his face and does not dry it well, will get a scab. Ab. Zar. 28ᵇ, sq. (Rashi: חוס׳).
