Admissions & Aid

Financial assistance

Subject to available funds, Berean Institutes offers three tuition waivers, two grants, and two scholarships. There is nothing separate to fill out. Answer the financial assistance question in your program application, and the Institute decides which awards you qualify for.

How awards work

What to know first

What awards cover
Awards that cover tuition cover 100 percent of tuition and costs, reduced only by other funding you receive for the same expense. Grants for living expenses are also reduced by your own income.
Available funds
All awards depend on available funds, and meeting the criteria does not guarantee an award.
Your place in line
Your place in line is set when your file is complete, meaning every required document has arrived, not when you start. Awards are made in that order until the semester's funds are used. Eligible students who are not funded keep their place for the next semester.
Decisions
Award decisions come with your admission decision, no later than four weeks before the semester begins.
Keeping an award
To keep an award, enroll in at least six credit hours each semester.
Federal student aid
Berean Institutes does not take part in federal student aid programs, so you do not need to file a FAFSA.

Available awards

Seven awards

You don't choose an award. The Institute reviews your answers and decides which awards you qualify for.

Tuition waivers

Covers tuition and costs

Pastoral Assistance Waiver

Who qualifies: you currently serve as a pastor, church planter, ministry leader, or missionary. Full-time service is not required.

What you provide: your role, the church or ministry you serve and its city, and a contact for your church's board or council of elders. The Institute emails the endorsement form directly to that person. You don't upload an endorsement yourself.

Covers tuition and costs

Independent Lay Scholar Waiver

Who qualifies: you are neither ordained nor employed in vocational ministry, and you either completed two Berean Institutes open courses at 80 percent or higher, or provide any two of:

  • a certificate or transcript from other theological coursework;
  • a letter from a church leader confirming your lay teaching or leadership; or
  • a record of theological books you've read in the past 24 months, with a written reflection.

What you provide: a signed lay-status certification and the items above.

Covers tuition and costs

Academic Merit and Need Waiver

Who qualifies: you are or were a seminary student at a seminary that used letter grades, with a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0 there, and your current personal income is within a limit set from the federal poverty guidelines. Pass/fail coursework does not qualify.

What you provide: the seminary's name and your grade point average, an official transcript sent by the seminary, and proof of your income.

Grants

Covers living expenses

Living Expenses Grant

Amount: the standard living expense amount for your county, which is based on local housing costs plus a fixed amount for other living costs, minus your own monthly income.

Who qualifies: you plan to enroll in at least six credit hours each semester, and you completed two Berean Institutes open courses at 80 percent or higher or earned a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0 in college or university coursework in the past ten years.

What you provide: your county, proof of your income, and official transcripts for any coursework you list.

For enrolled students

Continuation Grant

Who it's for: enrolled students who need help to continue their studies.

How to be considered: request it later through your student profile. Nothing is needed in the program application.

Scholarships

Covers tuition and costs and living expenses

Berean Scholarship

Who qualifies: you completed two Berean Institutes open courses at 80 percent or higher, or earned a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0 in college or university coursework in the past ten years.

What you provide: your county, proof of your income, and official transcripts for any coursework you list.

Paid after you finish

Program Completion Scholarship

If you pay your own way and finish your program, the Program Completion Scholarship reimburses the tuition, costs, and standard living expenses you paid, subject to available funds.

What you provide: nothing. It is calculated from the Institute's own payment and enrollment records.
