The Responsibility

Berean is recruiting directors to govern.

Board service means accepting real responsibility for the corporation, its mission, its charitable assets, and the conduct of the organization. Directors are not being recruited for prestige, public association, or ceremonial participation.

The Board exercises ultimate corporate authority and oversees Berean's executive leadership while leaving routine management to the executives and professionals responsible for it.

Location

Remote. Work and meetings take place online. No routine travel or in-person attendance is required. Any exception will be stated in the opportunity and agreed before you accept. Please review any location or work-eligibility requirements listed for this particular role.

Board Authority

Corporate authority without absorbing every professional function.

Berean's Board governs the corporation and exercises ultimate corporate and fiduciary authority. It does not need to become the operating team, the academic review body, or the editorial review body in order to govern responsibly.

Corporate authority

The Board exercises Berean's ultimate corporate authority and takes responsibility for major matters requiring governing-Board action.

Executive oversight

The Board oversees Berean's executive leadership and holds the executives accountable for the responsibilities entrusted to them.

Mission & charitable assets

Directors share responsibility for protecting Berean's mission and ensuring that charitable assets are governed responsibly.

Fiduciary oversight

The Board exercises fiduciary oversight and addresses major financial and organizational matters that belong at the corporate level.

Routine management

The Board does not perform day-to-day management. Ordinary operating responsibility belongs with Berean's executive and professional leadership.

Delegated professional authority

The Board respects professional authority formally delegated to qualified bodies. Berean Institutes' Academic Board exercises delegated academic judgment, while the JBAH Editorial Board exercises delegated scholarly publication authority. The corporate Board does not substitute itself for either body as an academic or editorial review panel.

Launch Structure

The Board governs a broader Berean ecosystem.

Berean is the broader organization being prepared for launch. Berean Institutes is the academic institution within that ecosystem. At launch, Berean's top-level organization includes three branches directly under the Board.

Board of Directors Ultimate corporate and fiduciary authority
Institutional Operations Organization-wide operating, administrative, management, and institutional responsibilities.
Fundraising Funding strategy, programs, grants, donor development, sponsorships, and external funding relationships.
Marketing Audience development, promotion, distribution, engagement, conversion, and related marketing initiatives.

Why Join Now

The framework exists. The Board still has to exercise it.

Berean is forming its governing Board while the organization is still approaching launch. Incoming directors therefore have an opportunity to examine the framework before years of operating habits have made it difficult to change.

Incoming directors are not being recruited to invent Berean's governance framework. They will inspect the established framework, raise concerns, and exercise the oversight responsibilities of their office.

Board Service

Governance is the work.

Board service is a governance responsibility rather than an ongoing operating position. Directors should expect to approach the role as fiduciaries responsible for oversight, judgment, accountability, and corporate decision-making—not as additional members of Berean's management team.

Berean reimburses reasonable expenses incurred in Board service. Directors are not part of Berean's professional-service compensation framework.

For Advancing Candidates

Review the governing terms before making a serious commitment.

Detailed provisions governing Board qualifications, voting, meetings, terms, conflicts, committees, and other formal responsibilities belong in Berean's governing documents rather than being compressed into a recruitment page.

Berean’s Board of Directors provides fiduciary oversight of the organization, its resources, and its mission. Directors must exercise independent judgment, disclose conflicts of interest, protect confidential information, and commit the time required to prepare for and participate in Board work. Candidates who advance receive the governing documents, expected meeting schedule, term and attendance requirements before deciding whether to serve.

Next Step

Begin with a Board Expression of Interest.

If Berean's formation-stage governance work fits your experience and the kind of responsibility you want to take on, the first step is to introduce yourself. Berean's initial submission asks for your contact information, résumé, CV, or professional biography, relevant professional or governance experience, and a short statement explaining your interest in Board service.

Berean will publicly recruit directors through December 1, 2026. If you discover this opportunity during that period, you do not need to make a rushed decision: Expressions of Interest remain open through January 1, 2027.

An expression of interest begins a conversation. It is not an acceptance of appointment or a commitment to serve.
