יוֹנָה II f. (b. h.) dove. Ḥull. 6ᵃ דמות י׳ וכ׳ the effigy of a dove was found on Mount Gerizim which they (the Samaritans) worshipped. Gen. R. s. 39 הי׳ הזו בשעה שהיא פורחת וכ׳ the dove when flying and tired, flaps one wing and flies with the other. Gen. R. s. 44 (expl. גוזל, Gen. XV, 9) בר י׳ a young dove, (v. infra, a. Targ. Gen. l. c.).—בֶּן י׳, pl. בְּנֵי י׳ pigeons. Ḥull. I, 5 כשר בתורין פסול בבני י׳ what is fit for offering in doves (large size), is a defect in pigeons; a. fr.—[Sabb. 129ᵃ פתורא דיונה, v. יוֹנָס.].—Pl. יוֹנִים, יוֹנִין. Snh.
