מַחֲבוֹא, מַחֲבוֹאָה I, מַחֲבוֹיָה f. 1) = מַחְבֵא I. Keth. 27ᵃ אם יש שם מחבואה אחת if there was only one hiding place (where the troops did not enter); Y. Gitt. III, 45ᵃ top היה שם מחבויה (read היתה).—Pl. מַחֲבוֹאִים, מַחֲבוֹיִים, מַחֲבוֹיִין (b. h. מַחֲבֹאִים). Y. Keth. II, 26ᵈ היו שם מ׳, v. supra.—Men. 63ᵃ (play on מַחֲבַת) דאתיא אמַחֲבוֹאֵי הלב it atones for the hidden (sinful) thoughts of the heart.—Y. Peah VII, 20ᵃ bot. (expl. כרכר a. כרכרה as a substitute for מַחֲבֵא II) שהוא משיר את המ׳ (not משייר) for it (the rod) causes the hidden olives to fall off. —2) = מַחֲבֵא II, q. v.
