A. holder of a shield, i.e.a barorband fastened crosswise on the under side of the shield, through which the bearer passed his arm, Anacr. 91 , Hdt. 2.141 , Aen.Tact. 29.12 ; invented by the Carians acc. to Hdt. 1.171 .
